A religious periodical, published monthly, made up of numbered pamphlets, dealing with political and theological liberalism; each number written anonymously by "learned divines" and scholars, all of whom were Dissenters.
Sometimes called the "Bagweell papers", a word formed from the initials of the authors' surnames. cf. Dict. of nat. biog., v. 2, under Benjamin Avery.
The authors were: Simon Browne, Benjamin Avery, Benjamin Grosvenor, Samuel Wright, John Evans, Jabez Earle, Moses Lowman and Nathaniel Lardner.
